Revisiting Valley View Pecan Company
It was the fall of 2018, when HPJ Field Editor Lacey Vilhauer traveled to Shawnee, Oklahoma, to meet the Grundmann family and tour their pecan company. Valley View Pecan Company has been in business since 1973, and it is operated by family members John, Janice and Josh Grundmann. This “Made in Oklahoma” business grows, shells and packages its own pecans and sells them in an on-site retail store as well as online.
Vilhauer’s article not only tells the story of how the Grundmann family’s business developed over the years, but it also explores pecan production in Oklahoma—one of the top states for native pecan harvest. Although the temperature outside does not feel like fall yet, the seasons are about to change, and it’s the perfect time to learn about a crop synonymous with autumn.
