Sherry: Nearing completion

All Aboard Harvest

Hi y’all! We began Thanksgiving week with picking cotton. We hope y’all had a great Thanksgiving! We ran for a couple of days, then took Thanksgiving day off and headed to Galveston, Texas, and celebrated Thanksgiving with some family. After that, it was back to picking cotton for Brian, Wailynn and Wyatt. Wesson, Whitleigh and I enjoyed some time off and caught a movie with some family.

The cotton has remained the same, about 1 bale of cotton per acre. This is almost average for this area. I am not sure if I have mentioned this before, but a ginned bale is about 480 pounds, and an acre is 43,650 square feet, so it really is not much. We would rather it be 960 pounds per 43,650 square feet, but Mother Nature doesn’t always give us what we want. Nonetheless, the weather has been OK. We are still unable to run as long as we would like, so this is taking a bit longer than expected, but we will be finished in a few days. Yippee!

On top of picking cotton, we also haul the cotton bales to the cotton gin. Brian has been trying to get a load hauled to the gin early in the morning so that he makes it back to the field on time before Wailynn and Wyatt start picking cotton. Brian likes to make it back to the field early so that just in case the boys run into any big problems, he can help solve the issue quickly, preventing us from sitting around waiting.

We will see y’all next week, and, hopefully, we will have this 2024 season wrapped up!
