TSCRA praises decision to end high-speed rail grant

Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association

The Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association President Carl Ray Polk Jr. praised a Trump administration decision to withdraw federal funding for a high-speed rail between Dallas and Houston.

“Our association has consistently opposed this project, and will continue to, due to the inevitable use of eminent domain, which would threaten private property rights,” Polk said. “In a state already leading the nation in daily agricultural land loss, we simply cannot afford to remove more land from production—specially at a time when food security is an increasing concern.”

Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy said the $63.9 million grant that had been awarded to Amtrak under the Corridor Identification and Development Program for the Amtrak Texas High-Speed Rail Corridor previously known as the Texas Central Railway project. He said the project was proposed as a private venture and it should stay that way.
