Hayden On Harvest: South Texas wheat harvest is complete!

Hey wheat harvest fans! Hayden and his family just wrapped up their South Texas wheat harvest, and boy, was it an adventure! After some intense rainstorms that dropped nearly 4 inches of rain and caused serious flooding (with water reaching 28 inches deep on county roads), Hayden and his family pushed through challenging conditions to finish harvesting.

The wheat fields took a beating from recent hailstorms, with some sections producing zero bushels per acre where they were previously averaging 35-40 bushels. The team had to navigate through incredibly weedy conditions, with wheat getting so tangled in the combine’s reel that Hayden said he’d never seen anything like it in his life.

Family teamwork was key – Hayden worked alongside his parents and sister Tessa, with two hired hands (JW and Jesse) joining to help complete the harvest. They even had to get creative, using a chain to move a tree blocking their path to the next field!

Despite the challenges, they managed to finish their South Texas wheat harvest, celebrating with some delicious cookies brought by Jesse and enjoying moments of family bonding in the combine. Hayden’s playful commentary and behind-the-scenes look made the tough work feel like an exciting adventure.

Just another day in the life of a farming family, pushing through whatever Mother Nature throws their way!
