Antique Tractor Preservation Day set in Kansas

Antique Tractor Preservation Day is set for Aug. 22.

Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly, for the second year in a row, has issued a proclamation for Antique Preservation Day.

Building on a theme of progress since the 2024 inaugural proclamation, in Hutchinson there will be special activities on Aug. 22 in Hutchinson and Bird City. Michael Hinton, the driving force behind the proclamation, and president and CEO of Talking Tractors.com, said the 2025 signing underscores the importance of the state’s vintage farm machinery and its relevance to the nation’s strong agriculture heritage.

“We take immense pride in this recognition,” Hinton said. “Gov. Kelly’s bestowment of this honor fosters the broadening of our worldwide focus relative to preserving our proud rural history and traditions.”

In Hutchinson, the U.S. Postal Service will have an exclusive pictorial postmark, starting Aug. 22. Patrons who want a postmark may visit the Hutchinson post office in person or request via mail order by affixing stamps to any envelope or postcard, placing in a larger envelope and addressing it to: Pictorial Postmark, TalkingTractors.com Station, 128 East 1st Ave., Hutchinson, KS 67501-9900. Antique tractors from the Great Plains Antique Tractor Club will be on display at the post office. Also, the Hutchinson Fire Department will be displaying a United States flag from its ladder truck.

A parallel event will be Aug. 22 in Bird City at the Tri-State Antique Engine and Threshers Association from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Thresher Museum. Coffee and donuts will be available in the morning and cookies in the afternoon. Visitors can see antique tractors and discuss heritage tractor preservation. Museum tours will also be available.
