South Dakota – I love it here in the Dakotas. It really is God’s country. It’s beautiful and peaceful. I’d love to live up here. I feel so blessed to get to cut such beautiful fields of wheat. Some days feel like a dream out here in the field. However, it’s not as good or great as it looks or seems to be. The grain prices are way low. Things are very tough in this business right now. Machinery is priced way high so it’s tough to make this work.
The winter wheat yielded good and the spring wheat is just as good. The test weights have been around 63 pounds per bushel. The conditions have been tough recently. Cloudy days and high humidity makes it tough to get wheat cut. Sunshine and a good breeze really work wonders and that makes it all fun again.
Our forecast has highs in the 70s and 80s with slight chances of rain. I’m hoping we can get the wheat cut here and get moved up to my favorite state to cut wheat, good ol North Dakota. I’m looking forward to being there and getting wheat and canola cut.
