South Dakota – We are cutting spring wheat that is yielding pretty good with decent test weights around 61 pounds per bushel and the protein 15 percent. This area had an inch of rain on July 30th. The heat the past few weeks has been unreal. It’s been a summer drought here and the corn is showing signs of it. It’s been hot and windy most days.
When we finish here we’ll be going to North Dakota to cut spring wheat and canola. I look forward to getting there and going to the field. It’s my favorite place to cut wheat and I also enjoy cutting canola.
Our crews out in Montana have been staying busy cutting winter and spring wheat. They’ll also cut chickpeas and other small grains.
Our forecast continues to be hot and dry. It’s August 3rd and looks like we’ll have a busy month unlike July which was way slower than usual. Mother Nature and the drought have given us too much downtime this harvest. I’m looking forward to seeing what all we can cut this month. Please be safe out in the fields and on the roads!
