Texas A&M AgriLife Extension’s Southwest Dairy Day set for Sept. 2 in Dalhart
Attendees can experience innovation on tours of Full Circle Jersey Dairy
The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will host Southwest Dairy Day on Sept. 2 in Dalhart. The event is co-hosted this year by Full Circle Jersey Dairy.
The event will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Rita Blanca Coliseum, 2222 Farm-to-Market Road 281, with dairy tours conducted between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Participants will be transported to Full Circle Jersey Dairy for guided educational stops throughout the day.
“We encourage dairy farmers, veterinarians, nutritionists, consultants, students and allied industry professionals to join us for a day of education, innovation and networking,” said Juan Piñeiro, DVM, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension dairy specialist at Canyon and associate professor, Texas A&M Department of Animal Science.
At the dairy
During the dairy tour, the first stop will provide an overview of Full Circle Jersey Dairy’s history, business model and facilities. Participants will learn how the dairy has grown over the years, hear about its management and business model, and gain insight into facility design considerations that improve efficiency and cow comfort.
The second stop will focus on cutting-edge dairy technologies currently being implemented, including on-farm laboratory capabilities to diagnose pregnancy and mastitis pathogens. These technologies continue to transform dairy management by providing faster decision-making, improving reproductive efficiency and supporting earlier disease detection.
The final stop will highlight anaerobic digesters, nutrient management and forage production. Discussions will also include nutrient cycling and innovative technologies designed to improve the digestibility and feeding value of drought-tolerant forage crops.
At the coliseum
In addition to the dairy tours, the Rita Blanca Coliseum will serve as the central gathering location throughout the day. Booths and exhibits from allied industries and organizations will provide participants with opportunities to visit one-on-one with representatives and to explore the latest products and services.
