Red Angus Association of America relocates headquarters from Colorado to Oklahoma 

The Red Angus Association of America announced that its board of directors voted unanimously in June to relocate the association’s headquarters from Commerce City, Colorado, to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. 

In an August press release, RAAA stated the association was leasing temporary office space in Midwest City, Oklahoma, while it searches for a permanent location for a headquarters. That process could take as long as two years. 

The RAAA was developed in 1954, and was originally headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas. Later, it was moved to Denton, Texas, where it stayed for many years. In 2017, it was moved to Commerce City in an effort to be more centrally located to the membership. 

According to the release, the business climate in Colorado, accessibility to members and growth of the beef industry were all major considerations that contributed to the decision to move the office.  

“The culture and passion for agriculture that Oklahoma represents are incredibly similar to the key principles that the Red Angus breed was built upon,” said Jeff Pettit, RAAA president. 

The relocation to the Sooner State is also expected to reduce operating costs, which will be redirected to improvements for the Red Angus breed and its members.  

“The association belongs to its members, and the board has a responsibility to make decisions that protect and strengthen that investment,” said Keith Hickle, treasurer and region A director. “By reducing unnecessary operating costs and creating greater flexibility to invest in member-focused programs, we are taking a proactive approach to ensuring the association remains financially sound and well-positioned for the future.” 

The release states that Oklahoma is a more centrally located area for the breed to expand and attract new talent, especially with Oklahoma’s strong agricultural workforce and accessibility to the Oklahoma City metropolitan area. 

“Our goal is to be a driving force when the cow herd starts to be rebuilt and being right in the middle of cow country positions us to be in a great location to support it,” Pettit said. 

RAAA received mail at the Colorado address until Aug. 20. Since then, mail has been forwarded to the address in Midwest City. The telephone number will not change.
