Ada livestock auction report

The Southern Oklahoma Livestock Auction, Ada, Oklahoma, reported estimated receipts of 1,883 head selling on March 22, compared to 1,810 head a week ago and 2,982 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Compared to a week ago, steers under 600 pounds were selling $2 to $4 lower. Heifers under 600 pounds were selling $3 to $6 lower. There was no recent adequate comparison on heavier weights but a lower undertone was evident. Demand was light to mostly moderate on grazing cattle, moderate for feeders. Overall quality was plain to average with a good supply of new crop calves offered. Heifers made up 44% and cattle over 600 pounds 26% of the supply. Slaughter cows were selling mostly steady except lean cows were trading $2 to $3 lower. Bulls were selling steady. Packer demand was moderate. A total of 417 cows and bulls sold with 43% going to packers.
