Ozarks Regional cattle sales report
The Ozarks Regional Stockyards, West Plains, Missouri, reported receipts of 3,047 head selling on May 29, compared to 4,539 head a week ago and 3,087 head last year, according to the USDA-Missouri Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Jefferson City, Missouri.
Compared to a week ago, steer calves under 650 pounds were trading steady to $2 lower with heavier weights and yearling steers selling steady to $4 higher. Heifer calves were trading unevenly from $4 higher to $4 lower with yearling heifers not well tested. Demand was good on a moderate supply which was lacking the quality we saw a week ago. Buyers expressed concerns about the heat and humidity and discounted excess hair and flesh accordingly. Compared to last year, inventories were 5% higher with placements 8% lower and marketings 6% higher. The feeder cattle supply included 57% steers, 35% heifers and 9% bulls. The feeder cattle supply over 600 pounds was 46%.
