West Plains Regional cattle sales report

The Ozarks Regional Stockyards, West Plains, Missouri, reported receipts of 3,259 head selling on Oct. 9, compared to 3,429 head a week ago and 4,419 head last year, according to the USDA-Missouri Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Jefferson City, Missouri.

Compared to a week ago, steer and heifer calves were selling $3 to $6 lower with the exception of 3 weights which were selling $5 to $7 higher. Yearling steers were selling $4 lower with yearling heifers not well tested. Demand was very good on peewee calves and moderate on the heavier weights. The supply was moderate and included a four potload offering of 9 weight steers. With colder temperatures and rain in the forecast, unweaned calves were sharply discounted. The feeder cattle supply included 49% steers, 0% dairy steers, 43% heifers and 7% bulls. The feeder cattle supply over 600 pounds was 37%.
