The Colorado Auction Feeder Cattle Summary, Greeley, Colorado, reported receipts of 4,834 head selling on Jan. 26, compared to 17,197 head a week ago and 8,952 head last year, according to the USDA-Colorado Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Greeley, Colorado.
Compared to a week ago, trade activity and demand were moderate to good across the board. Feeder steers under 550 pounds were trading $2 to $3 lower on a light test, 550 to 650 pounds were trading unevenly steady, 650 to 800 pounds were trading $4 to $7 higher on good demand and over 800 pounds were trading mostly $4 higher on a light test. For feeder heifers under 400 pounds, there was no market test, 400 to 550 pounds were trading $1 higher with instances of sharply higher on a light test, 550 to 800 pounds were selling mostly $2 to $5 higher and for heifers weighing over 800 pounds there was no market test. The feeder supply consisted of approximately 55% steers, 10% Holstein steers, 34% heifers and 1% bull calves. Feeder cattle over 600 pounds made up approximately 57% of the supply.
