Fort Pierre Livestock Auction report

The Fort Pierre Livestock Auction, Ft. Pierre, South Dakota, reported receipts of 5,558 head selling on Feb. 16, compared to 6,088 head a week ago and 6,849 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Compared to a week ago, feeder steers were selling $3 to $5 higher, except 750 to 800 pounds were selling $3 to $4 lower. Feeder heifers were selling mostly steady. There was good to very good demand for all weights and classes, many long strings of one to iron cattle including many replacement quality heifers. Many of the heifers returned to the country. The market was very active with many buyers participating. The offering included 49% steers, 51% heifers, with 93% over 600 pounds.
