Ft. Pierre Livestock Auction report
The Ft. Pierre Livestock Auction, Ft. Pierre, South Dakota, reported receipts of 5,402 head selling on Oct. 5, compared to 5,441 head a week ago and 6,043 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Compared to a week ago, steer calves from 500 to 650 pounds were selling $2 to $4 higher, steers 900 to 950 pounds were selling $3 to $4 higher, other weights of steers were not well compared. Best test was on the 450 to 500 pounds heifers were selling $3 to $4 lower, 800 to 900 pound yearling heifers were selling $3 to $6 higher. Very good demand for all classes of yearlings, with a couple of long strings in this offering. Very active market with many buyers in attendance. The offering of feeder cattle included 48% steers, 58% heifers with 57% over 600 pounds.
