Ft. Pierre Livestock Auction report
The Ft. Pierre Livestock Auction, Ft. Pierre, South Dakota, reported receipts of 7,079 head selling on Nov. 30, compared to 7,117 head Nov. 16 and 2,818 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Compared to the Nov. 16 sale, steer calves from 400 to 450 pounds were selling teady to $2 higher. Steer calves from 450 to 599 pounds were selling $4 to $6 lower. The 600 to 649 pounds steers were selling $2 lower, 650 to 699 pounds steers were selling $6 to $8 lower. Heifer calves from 400 to 450 pounds were selling steady to $2 higher, the 450 to 550 pound heifers were selling $6 to $8 lower, while the 550 pounds to 650 pound heifers were selling $2 to $4 lower. No comparison made on yearling cattle, due to limited numbers two weeks ago. A long string of spayed yearling heifers off grass were meet with good demand, cattle were in light flesh condition and really green for the kind. Most of the calves were right off the cow and fully pre to conditioned. The offering included 43% over 600 lbs. 51% steers, 49% heifers.
