Joplin cattle sales report

The Joplin Regional Stockyards, Carthage, Missouri, reported receipts of 2,322 head on Jan. 15, compared to 8,736 head last week and 2,656 head last year, according to the USDA-Missouri Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Jefferson City, Missouri.

Compared to a week ago, the steers weighing under 600 pounds were unevenly steady and those over 600 pounds were selling $4 to $6 lower. The heifers under 600 pounds were steady to $3 lower and those over 600 pounds were selling $2 to $6 lower. The hazardous travel conditions in the trade area curtailed the receipts. The demand was moderate and the supply was light. The feeder cattle supply included 55% steers, 42% was heifers and 3% was bulls. The feeder cattle supply over 600 pounds was 57%.
