Want to learn what it takes to survive in the wild? Now is your chance as Colorado Parks and Wildlife offers Outdoor Survival 101, a free class for all ages.
Hosted by career CPW wildlife officer Steve Keefer, the class is scheduled for 1-4 p.m., Sept. 9, at the Rocky Ford State Wildlife Area, 21898 County Rd 805, Rocky Ford, northwest of La Junta.
The class will be broken up to classroom instruction and outdoor activities. Keefer will draw on his own experiences in search and rescue scenarios during 32 years as a district wildlife manager. He will also pass along lessons he learned while attending the National Outdoor Leadership School.
Keefer’s class will cover survival kits, mental preparedness, finding resources in the outdoors and taking advantage of whatever you have available. Students are asked to bring water.
