Fort Larned to host once-in-a-blue-moon evening
Visit Fort Larned National Historic Site for a once-in-a-blue-supermoon open house starting at 5 p.m. on Jan. 31. Grab your camera to snap a winter sunset and moonrise in this scenic and historic spot.
Experience dusk at Kansas’s best-preserved historic forts. Staff will keep the gate open so visitors can explore the grounds and catch the last rays of light on the sandstone. Bring your camera for this “golden hour.”
Stop by the visitor center at 6 p.m. for a short program. Learn about how Indian people and the U.S. Army observed the sky on the Great Plains.
At 6:30 p.m., you can watch this month’s blue moon rise over the horizon. Snap a shot of the last supermoon until January 2019 above the prairie or blockhouse.
Warm drinks will be available at the visitor center all evening. The gate will close at 8 p.m.
