Lake and pond management workshops scheduled in Omaha, Lincoln

Free workshops are scheduled in Omaha and Lincoln for anyone who makes decisions about lakes and ponds or wants to learn more about protecting them.

The two-hour workshops will begin at 6 p.m. Reservations are required. The first workshop will be in Omaha on March 21 at the Douglas-Sarpy County Extension Office, 8015 W. Center Road. Register at go.unl.edu/OMAHALakes by March 19.

The other workshop will be in Lincoln on March 26 at the Lower Platte South Natural Resources District, 3125 Portia St. Register at go.unl.edu/LINCOLNLakes by March 22.

The workshops are a joint effort of the University of Nebraska, Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality and Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. The workshops are intended for landowners and others interested in learning about the following:

How southeast Nebraska lakes function;

Managing waters for fisheries;

Project funding and regulations;

Lake management planning;

Resolving maintenance problems;

Developing a private pond maintenance plan; and

Understanding invasive species.
