Gary Lesoing at Nebraska Extension in Nemaha County is hosting a cover crop tour/workshop on Nov. 20 in southeast Nebraska. The tour will leave from the 4-H Building on the Johnson County Fairgrounds in Tecumseh, Nebraska, at 9:30 a.m.
The bus will visit several fields of cover crops under different management systems and that have been grazed, are being grazed or will be grazed this year. Some cover crops were drilled following harvest of a small grain crop in July, while others were aerial applied in standing corn or soybeans. We will then return to Tecumseh for lunch. Following lunch we will have presentations about cattle grazing cover crops and the impact of cover crops on subsequent crop yields. The day will conclude with a farmer panel of producers that graze cover crops and should be finished by 3 p.m.
There is not cost to attend, but please contact the Nemaha Extension office at 402-274-4755 or email Tyler Williams at [email protected] if you want to attend so the office can get a count for lunch.
