OYE Night of Stars Gilt Sale brings in a record-breaking $1.61 million
The 20th annual Night of Stars Gilt Sale at the Oklahoma Youth Expo in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, reached a new level this year with a total of $1.61 million spent—breaking 2023’s record by $350,000. The sale was held March 19, with 130 guilts qualifying for the sale out of the 2,000 that were exhibited in the OYE breeding gilt show. Each gilt averaged a whopping $12,390.
The gilts that garnered the highest bidding included the supreme Crossbred gilt, shown by Kashan Young of Rogers County 4-H. This gilt brought $175,000. Additionally, the reserve supreme Crossbred, which was shown by Isaiah Gamez of Adair FFA, was sold for $75,000. Incredibly, a third-place Crossbred gilt that was 87th in the sale order sold for $91,000 when buyers got in a bidding war for the female.
On the purebred side of the sale, the reserve supreme champion purebred gilt, a Berkshire, was bought for $45,000 and was owned by Ava Gilcrease of Turner FFA. A fifth-place Spot gilt, owned by Summer Prince of Garber FFA, was also bought for $45,000. The supreme champion purebred gilt, a Berkshire, was owned by Madison Walker of Red Oak FFA and was bought for $22,500.
