Joplin regional cattle sales report

The Joplin Regional Stockyards, Carthage, Missouri, reported receipts of 6,000 head selling on Jan. 2, compared to 5,753 head selling Dec. 19, according to the USDA-Missouri Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Jefferson City, Missouri.

Compared to the sale two weeks ago, steer and heifer calves were selling $2 to $5 higher, yearlings were not well tested early. Demand was good, supply moderate. The feeder cattle supply included 55% steers and 45% heifers. The feeder cattle supply over 600 pounds was 37%.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 400 to 500 lbs., 190.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 166.00 to 185.00, 532 lbs., fleshy 170.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 161.00 to 168.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 147.00 to 152.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 400 to 500 lbs., 175.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 163.00 to 174.00; 684 lbs., 147.00, 630 lbs., calves 152.00; 711 lbs., 150.00.

Feeder heifers: Per hundredweight, medium and large frame 1, 300 to 400 lbs., 162.50 to 173.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 155.00 to 168.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 151.00 to 1151.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 143.00 to 145.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 400 to 500 lbs., thin fleshed 157.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 146.00 to 151.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 135.00 to 146.00, 626 lbs., thin fleshed 146.00; 831 lbs., 135.00.
