Dalhart livestock auction report
The Cattleman’s Livestock Auction, Dalhart, Texas, reported receipts of 1,695 head selling on Jan. 4, compared to 2,292 head selling in mid-December and 1,857 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.
Compared to the mid-December sale, there was no market comparison available due to the holiday closings, however a firm undertone was noted. Trade was fairly active. Demand was fairly good. The bulk of the supply was medium and large frame 1 to 2, 400- to 950-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 29%, slaughter bulls less than 1%, replacement cows less than 1% and feeders 71%. The feeder supply included 63% steers and 37% heifers, nearly 67% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.
