Dalhart cattle sale report

The Cattleman’s Livestock Auction, Dalhart, Texas, reported receipts of 1,525 head selling on Aug. 23, compared to 1,169 head a week ago and 1,369 head a year ago, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Ag Market News, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to a week ago, there were not enough 300- to 600-pound steer and heifer calves on offer a week ago for a good market comparison; however, a weaker undertone was noted. Feeder steers and heifers weighing over 600 pounds were selling steady with a few lots on offer selling $2 to $4 higher. The slaughter cows and bulls were selling steady to $1 higher. The trade was fairly active. The demand was fairly good. The bulk of the supply was medium and large frame 1 to 2, 325- to 900-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 36% of the stock, slaughter bulls were less than 1%, replacement cows were less than 1% and feeders were 64%. The feeder supply included 44% steers and 56% heifers. Nearly 71 percent of the run weighed over 600 pounds.
