The Basics of Commodity Marketing class begins Jan. 23

The Canadian, Caddo and Grady County OSU Cooperative Extension Centers will be hosting, “The Basic Commodity Marketing Seminar Series.” This meeting will cover eight lessons in six seminars starting Jan. 23. The seminars will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10 a.m. at the Canadian Valley Technology Center, 6505 East Highway 66, El Reno, Oklahoma.

This eight lesson course was written by the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and covers futures contracts, fundamental and technical analysis of the markets, option terms and option strategies.

The course will begin by covering the history of commodity marketing and will focus on reducing risk by hedging with futures and options. The course walks participants through the math and discusses both crop and livestock futures. In addition, it is specifically designed to help farmers, ranchers and agriculture loan officers to reduce financial risk. Extension Educators David Nowlin and Kyle Worthington will lead several lessons. There will be three guest speakers leading specialized topics. These speakers are Derrell Peel, OSU Livestock Marketing Specialist, Justin Lewis, KIS Broker, and Trent Milacek, OSU Area Ag Economist.
