Joplin Regional cattle sales report
The Joplin Regional Stockyards, Carthage, Missouri, reported receipts of 8,736 head selling on Jan. 8, compared to 5,753 head the 2017’s last reported sale and 7,338 head last year, according to the USDA-Missouri Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Jefferson City, Missouri.
Compared to 2017’s last sale, steers under 650 pounds were selling steady to $3 lower, 650 to 800 pounds were selling $2 to $5 lower, 800 weights were selling $5 to $6 lower. Heifers under 650 pounds were selling $3 to $8 lower and over 650 pounds were selling $3 to $5 lower. Demand was moderate, supply heavy. The weather has moderated and the offering will be heavy as livestock markets will be back on their regular sale schedules. A few slaughter cattle traded at the feedlots, earlier than usual, at $120. The feeder cattle supply included 57% steers, 0% dairy steers, 39% heifers, 0% cows and 4% bulls. The feeder cattle supply over 600 pounds was 56%.
