Aberdeen livestock auction report
The Hub City Livestock Auction, Aberdeen, South Dakota, reported receipts of 7,402 head on Jan. 10, compared to 6,721 head last week and 5,259 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Compared to last week, the steers weighing 550 to 850 pounds were selling $5 to $10 lower, those 851 to 1000 pounds were selling $10 to $14 lower. The heifers from 550 to 600 pounds were steady, those 601 to 800 pounds were selling $5 to $10 lower with instances up to $13 lower on those from 650 to 700 pounds. There was good to very good demand for this large offering, which were sold on an active market. There were many strings, loads and packages of mostly home raised cattle to choose from. The flesh was similar to last week as this offering also had much variation in flesh depending on what the producer had available for feedstuffs. Steers made up 68 percent of the feeder supply, heifers were 32 percent, and 86 percent owere ver 600 pounds.
