Springfield Livestock auction report
The Springfield Livestock Marketing Center, Springfield, Missouri, reported receipts of 2,917 head on Jan. 10, compared to 1,477 head last week and 3,292 head last year, according to the USDA-Missouri Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Jefferson City, Missouri.
Compared to a week ago, the steers weighing under 750 pounds were steady to $5 lower and steers over 750 pounds were selling $5 to $8 lower. The heifers under 500 pounds were steady to $5 lower, those 500 to 650 pounds were selling $3 to $8 lower, heifers over 650 pounds were selling $3 to $5 lower. There was no recent test of Holsteins for a price comparison. The demand was moderate and the supply was heavy. The offering consisted of unweaned and weaned calves with a few yearlings in the mix. The feeder cattle supply included 50% steers, 7% was dairy steers, 40% was heifers and 3% was bulls. The feeder cattle supply over 600 pounds was 53%.
