Winter Livestock feeder cattle auction report

The Winter Livestock feeder cattle auction, Dodge City, Kansas, reported receipts of 4,611 headon Jan. 10, compared to 1,729 head last week and 6,385 head last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Dodge City, Kansas.

Compared to last week’s light test, the feeder steers weighing 600 to 850 pounds were selling $4 to $6 lower. The feeder heifers were selling $8 lower on a light test of medium and large frame 1 animals. The steer calves from 450 to 550 pounds were firm to $7 higher. The heifer calves were selling $5 to $9 lower. The trade was slow and the demand was moderate. The feeder supply included 62% steers and 38% was heifers with 75% 600 pounds and over. The slaughter cows and bulls were selling $2 to $4 lower.
