Salina livestock auction report
The Farmers and Ranchers Livestock Commission Co., Salina, Kansas, reported receipts of 3,089 head, Jan. 11, compared to 4,187 head, last week and 5,733 head, last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News, Dodge City, Kansas.
Compared to a week ago, the area was hit with a major storm, with low to no visibility, extreme low temperatures, bad roads and cattle covered with snow. The steers weighing 700 to 1,000 pounds were selling $5 to $12 lower, those 700 pounds and under experienced a lower undertone with some instances $6 lower. The heifers from 650 to 950 pounds were selling $10 to $12 lower, those 650 pounds and under experienced a lower undertone. The trade and demand was moderate. The receipts were 79% weighing 600 pounds and over, 20% were 600 pounds and under and 1% were slaughter cows. The feeder supply included 66% steers and 34% was heifers.
