Tama feeder cattle auction report
The Tama feeder cattle auction, Tama, Iowa, reported receipts of 2,497 head on Jan. 12, compared to 1,740 head last year, according to the Iowa Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News, Des Moines, Iowa.
This was a special pre-conditioned calf sale. Compared to a week ago, the feeder steers weighing 450 to 799 pounds were selling $3.50 to $5.25 lower and those 800 to 950 pounds were selling $9 to $9.50 lower. The feeder heifers were selling $1.25 to $2.75 lower and those over 800 pounds were mostly steady. The trade was active and the demand was good. The supply consisted of 52% steers and 48% was heifers, and 83.2% weighing over 600 pounds.
