Aberdeen livestock auction report
The Hub City Livestock Auction, Aberdeen, South Dakota, reported receipts of 5,217 head selling on Jan. 17, compared to 7,402 head a week ago and 6,455 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Compared to a week ago, steers 600 to 950 pounds were selling $4 to $7 higher with instances up to $10 higher on 850 to 900 pounds. Heifers 550 to 650 pounds were selling mostly steady, 651 to 800 pounds were selling $7 to $12 higher. Good to very good demand for this offering of many packages and loads of mostly home raised steers and heifers. Varied flesh condition again this week with slightly more flesh on the cattle than last week. Average to attractive quality again this week. An active market with another day of positive gains on both live and feeder cattle futures lending support to the market. Steers made up 60% of the feeders, heifers 40% and 91% over 600 pounds.
