Epler provides open living

The Epler (402-51) provides open living for the retiree or for the family looking for a family cabin. This home is 34 feet by 34 feet, designed for a sloping lot with the back section of the basement against the hillside. The front of the Epler has a deck off the main floor, which provides a carport cover for the one of the bays in the garage.

To enter the Epler, one has to go up the stairs and cross the deck. The entry has been tiled for easy cleanup. The utility room with a half bath is to the left of the entrance. Beyond this area is the living room with a large corner wood stove sitting on a tiled hearth. The living and dining rooms are open, forming a great room. This entire area is vaulted. Large windows line the entire wall on the right and there is door opening onto the deck in the rear.

The kitchen is L-shaped with a range and oven on an island that has a half wall attached. Off the kitchen are the stairs to the basement and the upper floor. One unique feature of this home is that it only contains two bedrooms. Both are suites and could be used as the master suite. The guest suite is downstairs, occupying the entire left side of the home. The main suite area is large with a deep walk-in closet at one end behind two pocket doors. The bathroom area has two sinks and a large shower. Just outside the door to this suite is a linen closet.

Upstairs, the entire floor is dedicated to the master suite. At the top of the stairs is a semi-circle accordion door for closing off the suite from downstairs. The walk-in closet is directly in front of the stairs, and the bath is to the side. This bathroom has a tub, rather than a shower, with one sink and a skylight.

Completing this interesting home is the garage in the basement. One stall is very deep and could have the rear of it used as a shop or for storage. The other stall, located through a door in a dividing wall, has the water heater and the forced air unit in the rear.
