McAlester livestock market report

The McAlester Union Livestock Market, McAlester, Oklahoma, reported receipts of 1,600 head on Jan. 23, compared to 600 head last week and 1,900 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Compared to a very light test this past week, the steer calves were selling $10 to $20 higher. The heifer calves were selling $13 to $20 higher. The quality was attractive. The demand was very good. The supply included 18% weighing over 600 pounds and 41% was heifers. The slaughter cows were steady to $2 higher. The slaughter bulls were selling $6 higher. The packer demand was good. A total of 200 cows and bulls was sold with 77% going to packers.
