Springfield dairy heifer sales report
The Springfield Livestock Marketing Center, Springfield, Missouri, reported receipts of 734 head on Jan. 23, compared to 352 head last month and 655 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Missouri.
The supply was moderate and included three herd dispersals. The demand was light. There were 16% springer heifers, 7% were bred heifers, 26% were open heifers, 17% were fresh and milking cows, 8% were bred and springer cows and 2% were baby calves. The balance was steers, bulls and slaughter cows. The prices were reported on a per-head basis and they were for Holsteins unless noted otherwise.
Springer heifers: Bred seven to nine months, Supreme 1000.00 to 1250.00, few crossbreds 1075.00 to 1100.00. Approved 750.00 to 950.00, individual Jersey 750.00, crossbreds 800.00 to 900.00. Medium 600.00 to 720.00, individual Jersey 600.00, crossbreds 550.00 to 725.00. Common 285.00 to 550.00, crossbreds 375.00 to 490.00. Heifers bred three to six months, supreme 1050.00 to 1200.00, few Jerseys 1025.00 to 1050.00, individual crossbred 1050.00. Approved 775.00 to 985.00. Medium 600.00 to 725.00.
