Grain Elevator and Processing Society hosting two-day event in July

Registration is now open for the 2018 GEAPS Leadership, Education and Networking Workshop. The two-day event will focus on human resources topics and is an opportunity for all level of grain industry professionals to build valuable leadership skills while expanding their professional networks. All registration will take place online by visiting www.geaps.com.

The Workshop will take place at the Saint Paul Hotel, Minneapolis, Minnesota, on July 17 to 18. It features four expert speakers addressing change management, hiring and motivating talent and succession planning. The event is free for GEAPS members and $249 for non-members. Last year 100 grain professionals attended.

GEAPS International President Barb Kraft, Landus Cooperative, will attend the event and give the welcome address.

“Events like this workshop are a great opportunity for future leaders,” Kraft said. “Attendees gain exposure to some of the important human resources issues facing the industry and meet other current and future grain industry leaders. We encourage companies to send multiple employees to grow in this forum.”

Workshop Speakers include Laura Goodrich, speaker, coach and author with GWT Next, will discuss how to create a mindset for change and innovation; Jill Berg, president/owner of Spherion Staffing, will expand on hiring, inspiring and motivating internal talent; Kelsey Schalkle, speaker and consultant with Good Leadership Enterprises, will teach attendees how lead change and inspire a strong team; and Succession planning will be discussed by Paul Batz, CEO and founder of Good Leadership Enterprises.

Closing Discussion Panel

New this year is a distinctive closing session. Workshop speakers, along with industry experts, will participate. Attendees will ask questions and use cell phone polling technology. The panel will allow participants to process conference information in a broader sense and apply it directly to their company.

Networking

There is a networking reception scheduled on Tuesday evening and planned networking breaks throughout the day on Wednesday. For many attendees, the networking is one of the most valuable aspects of the event.

“It’s tough to beat an opportunity to spend time networking with decision makers outside of a facility setting,” said Mike Stratis, Cleveland Vibrator Company, after attending the event last year. “Events like this give you an opportunity to learn more about the person, and not just the contact at that company.”
