Hay market activity moderate
In Kansas, hay market activity moderate. Demand is good for all alfalfa offerings, as supplies and offerings are becoming scarce. Grass hay inquiries have increased and prices are slightly higher for alfalfa; steady for all other classes of hay, according to the Kansas Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jan. 30. Prices given on a per-ton basis, unless otherwise noted.
Southwest: Dairy alfalfa, grass hay, grinding alfalfa and ground and delivered steady, movement moderate. Alfalfa, horse, small squares, $240-$250. Supreme dairy, .85-.95/point RFV $155-$175; premium, $155-$165; good, $135-$155. Stock or dry cow alfalfa, $115-$125. Fair/good grinding alfalfa, $125-$135. Ground and delivered locally to feedlots and dairies, $145-$155, with an instance at $160-$165. Bluestem grass hay, large squares, $80-$90. For the week ending Jan. 27, 9,753 tons of grinding alfalfa and 869 tons of dairy alfalfa were delivered. Cornstalks, large rounds, $55-$65, ground and delivered, $70-$75.
South central: Dairy alfalfa, grass hay, alfalfa pellets, and ground and delivered steady, stock cow and grinding alfalfa $5 higher, movement moderate. Horse alfalfa, small squares, $240-$245, dairy, .90-.95/point RFV, Supreme, $155-$165; premium, $150-$160; good, $130-$150. Stock cow alfalfa, $135-$140 delivered. Fair/good grinding alfalfa, $110-$120, with an instance at $120-$130. Ground and delivered locally to feedlots, $135-$145.
