Amarillo Livestock Auction summary

The Amarillo Livestock Auction, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 448 head on Feb. 12, compared to 675 head last week and 500 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to a week ago, the feeder steers and heifers were steady to firm on limited comparable sales. The trade activity was light to moderate on moderate to good demand. The slaughter cows and bulls were not well tested. The slaughter cows and bulls made up 3% of the stock, 5% wre replacements and 92% were feeders. The feeder supply consists of 49% steers and bulls and 51% was heifers with approximately 85% of the run weighing over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, lot 642 lbs., 157.00; few 792 lb. calves 135.00; 800 to 900 lbs., 132.50 to 138.25; half load 905 lbs., 133.75; few 1025 lbs., 120.50.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1, few 468 lbs., 160.50; few 640 lbs., 131.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1 few 367 lbs., 155.50; few 506 lbs., 151.50; few 705 lb. calves 119.00; few 848 lbs., 122.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 475 lbs., 138.50; 500 to 600 lbs., 130.00 to 135.50; few 636 lbs., full 115.00; few 715 lbs., fleshy 102.00; load 773 lbs., 133.50.

Slaughter cows: Breaking, 75 to 80% lean, 1400 to 1800 lbs., 60.00. Boning, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1300 lbs., 55.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1200 lbs., 55.00 to 60.00; high dressing, 61.00; low dressing, 45.00.

Replacement bulls: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young 1000 to 1450 lbs., 1150.00 to 1375.00 per head.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young to middle aged, 800 to 1000 lbs., 1 to 6 months bred 610.00 to 885.00; aged to broken mouth, 1250 to 1400 lbs., 6 to 9 months bred 760.00 to 910.00 per head.
