Dalhart livestock auction report

The Cattleman’s Livestock Auction, Dalhart, Texas, reported receipts of 2,625 head selling on Feb. 15, compared to 2,349 head a week ago and 1,358 head last year, according to the USDA-Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to a week ago, steer and heifer calves under 600 pounds were selling firm to $2 higher. Feeder steers and heifers over 600 pounds were selling $2 to $3 higher. Quality of receipts on offer was mostly attractive with a few plain. Slaughter cows were selling $2 to $3 higher. Slaughter bulls not well tested. Trade was active. Demand was good. The bulk of the supply was medium and large frame 1 to 2, 325- to 980-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 18%, slaughter bulls less than 1%, replacement cows less than 1% and feeders 82%. The feeder supply included 60% steers and 40% heifers, nearly 62% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.
