Hay market activity moderate
In Kansas, hay market activity moderate. Demand remains good for both grinding alfalfa and grass hay, however supplies are limited for alfalfa. Grass hay inquiries have increased, according to the Kansas Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Feb. 20. Prices given on a per-ton basis, unless otherwise noted.
Southwest:
Dairy alfalfa, grass hay, grinding alfalfa and ground and delivered steady, movement moderate. Alfalfa, horse, small squares, $240-$250. Supreme dairy, .85-.95/point RFV $155-$175; premium, $155-$165; good, $135-$155. Stock or dry cow alfalfa, $115-$125. Fair/good grinding alfalfa, $130-$140 with an instance at $150. Ground and delivered locally to feedlots and dairies, $145-$165. Bluestem grass hay, large squares, $80-$90. For the week ending Feb. 17, 10,362 tons of grinding alfalfa and 2,094 tons of dairy alfalfa were delivered. Cornstalks, large rounds, $55-$65, ground and delivered, $70-$75.
South central:
Dairy alfalfa, grass hay, alfalfa pellets, stock cow steady, grinding alfalfa and ground and delivered steady to $5 higher, movement moderate. Horse alfalfa, small squares, $230-$235, dairy, .90-.95/point RFV, Supreme, $155-$165; premium, $150-$160; good, $130-$150. Stock cow alfalfa, $135-$140 delivered. Fair/good grinding alfalfa, $110-$125, with an instance at $135. Ground and delivered locally to feedlots, $135-$150. Sun-cured alfalfa pellets, 15% protein, $175-$180, 17% protein, $180-$190, Dehydrated 17% $207-$217. For the week ending Feb. 17, 4,774 tons of grinding alfalfa and 933 tons of dairy alfalfa were delivered. Grass hay, bluestem, large squares, $80-$90, large rounds, $65-$75. Good, medium and large squares, $100-$115, large rounds, $70-$80. Oat hay, large rounds, $75-$85. For the week ending Feb. 17, 1,689 tons of grass hay were delivered. Straw, medium squares, $50-$60. Northwest:
