Hay market activity moderate

In Kansas, hay market activity is moderate; Demand remains good for both grinding alfalfa and grass hay. Supplies remain limited for alfalfa while grass hay inquiries have remained consistent, according to the Kansas Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Feb. 27. Prices given on a per-ton basis, unless otherwise noted.

Southwest:

Dairy alfalfa, grass hay steady, grinding alfalfa and ground and delivered steady to $5 higher, movement moderate. Alfalfa, horse, small squares, $240-$250. Supreme dairy, .85-.95/point RFV $155-$175; premium, $155-$165; good, $135-$155. Stock or dry cow alfalfa, $115-$125. Fair/good grinding alfalfa, $130-$150. Ground and delivered locally to feedlots and dairies, $155-$165, with an instance $170. Bluestem grass hay, large squares, $80-$90. For the week ending Feb. 24, 10,364 tons of grinding alfalfa and 2,119 tons of dairy alfalfa were delivered. Cornstalks, large rounds, $55-$65, ground and delivered, $70-$75.

South central:

Dairy alfalfa, grass hay, alfalfa pellets, grinding alfalfa and ground and delivered steady, stock cow steady to $5 higher, movement moderate. Horse alfalfa, small squares, $220-$225, dairy, .90-.95/point RFV, Supreme, $155-$165; premium, $150-$160; good, $130-$150. Stock cow alfalfa, $135-$145 delivered. Fair/good grinding alfalfa, $110-$130, with an instance at $135. Ground and delivered locally to feedlots, $135-$150, with two instances at $160-$165. Sun-cured alfalfa pellets, 15% protein, $175-$180, 17% protein, $180-$190, dehydrated 17% $207-$217.
