McAlester livestock market report
The McAlester Union Livestock Market, McAlester, Oklahoma, reported receipts of 825 head selling on April 3, compared to 875 head a week ago and 1,600 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Compared to a week ago, all classes were lightly tested. Steer calves under 500 pounds were selling $3 to $13 higher, over 500 pounds were selling $3 to $9 lower. Heifer calves were selling $2 to $4 lower. Demand was moderate. Quality was average to attractive. The supply included 19% over 600 pounds with 46% heifers. Slaughter cows were selling $2 to $5 higher. Slaughter bulls were selling $7 higher. Packer demand was good. A total of 210 cows and bulls sold with 66% going to packers.
