Ft. Pierre Livestock Auction report
The Ft. Pierre Livestock Auction, Ft. Pierre, South Dakota, reported receipts of 4,262 head selling on April 6, compared to 2,100 head selling on March 23 and 5,200 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
There was no feeder sale last week, therefore comparisons are being made from the March 23 sale. Steers under 700 pounds were too light to test, but steers over 700 pounds were selling steady to $3 higher. Heifers over 700 pounds were selling $2 to $3 higher. There was good to very good demand for all classes of cattle. Plenty of buyers in the seats actively bidding during the sale. Cattle futures closed sharply lower, but were higher for the week. Flesh condition ranged from light to moderate plus on a few consignments. A few weather related cancellations. The offering included 83% over 600 pounds, 51% steers and 49% heifers.
