Ft. Smith livestock auction report
The Ft. Smith Stockyards, Ft. Smith, Arkansas, reported receipts of 1,645 head selling on May 14, compared to 2,080 head a week ago and 1,830 head last year, according to the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service-USDA Market News, Little Rock, Arkansas.
Compared to a week ago, feeder steers and heifers under 400 pounds were selling $6 to $8 lower, over 400 pounds were selling mostly steady to $5 lower with the exception of the better 400 to 600 pound heifers selling $3 higher. Several groups of value added cattle were selling with a $2 to $6 premium. Slaughter cows and bulls were selling steady. Value added denotes cattle weaned at least 45 days, castrated and administered two sets of pre-conditioning vaccines. Fleshy denotes unweaned new crop calves. The supply included 676 feeder calves, 726 feeder yearlings, 81 replacement cows, 141 slaughter cows and 21 slaughter bulls. The feeder supply included 67% steers, 25% heifers and 8% bulls. Nearly 52% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.
