Aberdeen livestock auction report
The Hub City Livestock Auction, Aberdeen, South Dakota, reported receipts of 3,158 head on May 23, compared to 4,250 head last week and 3,710 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Compared to a week ago, the best test was on steers weighing 850 to 950 pounds that were steady to $1 higher. Other weight classes of steers were not well compared. The heifers from 600 to 650 pounds, 750 to 850 pounds and 900 to 950 pounds were selling $3 to $6 higher with instances up to $10 higher on 600 to 650 pounds and 800 to 850 pounds. Other weight classes of heifers were not well compared. There was good demand for this offering of loads, packages and a couple of strings of both home raised and back grounded steers and heifers, including fall calves and replacement heifers. The flesh and quality similar to last week, mostly moderate to moderate plus, and average to attractive. A moderate to active market. Steers made up 44% of the feeder supply, 56% was heifers and 94% weighed over 600 pounds.
