McAlester livestock auction report

The McAlester Union Livestock Market, McAlester, Oklahoma, reported receipts of 1,750 head selling on May 22, compared to 1,400 head a week ago and 1,750 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Compared to a week ago, steer calves were selling steady to $3 higher. Heifer calves were selling $2 to $4 higher. Quality was average to attractive. Demand was good. The supply included 35% over 600 pounds with 59% heifers. Slaughter cows were selling $2 to $3 higher. Slaughter bulls were selling $2 lower. A total of 350 cows and bulls sold with 48% going to packers. McAlester will not have a sale next week due to the Memorial holiday.
