Hay market light to moderate
In Kansas, hay market trade activity is light to moderate. Demand remains very good for all hay types. Producers have reported that here has been a significant increase in the number of acres planted to Sudan. Yields for both alfalfa and grass hay continue to be reported as below average, according to the Kansas Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, July 3. Prices given on a per-ton basis, unless otherwise noted.
Southwest: Dairy alfalfa, grass hay, grinding alfalfa, ground and delivered steady, movement slow. Alfalfa, horse, small squares, $260-$270. Dairy, .95-1.00/point RFV, supreme $180-$190; premium, $165-$175; good, $150-$160. New crop dairy alfalfa, 1.00/point RFV. Stock or dry cow alfalfa, $140-$155. Fair/good grinding alfalfa, $165-$175. Ground and delivered locally to feedlots and dairies, $180-$200, with instances $225-$235. Grass hay, pasture mix, small squares, $8-$9/bale. Cornstalks, large rounds, $55-$65, ground and delivered $95-$105. For the week ending June 30, 9,487 tons of grinding alfalfa and 1,325 tons of dairy alfalfa were delivered.
South central: Dairy alfalfa, grinding alfalfa, ground and delivered, grass hay, alfalfa pellets steady, movement slow. Horse alfalfa, small squares, $190-$200. Dairy, .95-1.00/point RFV, supreme, $180-$190; premium, $165-$175; good, $150-$160. New crop dairy, 1.00/point RFV. Stock cow alfalfa, $145-$160 delivered. Fair/good grinding alfalfa, $140-$160, with an instance at $170-$180. Ground and delivered locally to feedlots, $170-$180, with an instance $195.
