Soybeans progressing ahead of average
Temperatures for the week ending Aug. 12 averaged 79.1 degrees, 3.1 degrees above normal, according to USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service, Heartland Regional Field Office, Missouri. Precipitation averaged 0.76 inches statewide, 0.09 inches below normal. There were 6.1 days suitable for fieldwork. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 45 percent very short, 34 percent short, 20 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 48 percent very short, 32 percent short, and 20 percent adequate. Corn dough progressed to 88 percent, 11 percentage points ahead of the 5-year average. Corn dented reached 58 percent, 23 percentage points ahead of last week. Corn condition was rated 21 percent very poor, 24 percent poor, 29 percent fair, 22 percent good, and 4 percent excellent. Soybeans blooming progressed to 89 percent. Soybeans setting pods progressed to 66 percent, 18 percentage points ahead of the 5-year average. Soybean condition was rated 15 percent very poor, 22 percent poor, 31 percent fair, 27 percent good, and 5 percent excellent. Cotton bolls opening reached 26 percent, 21 percentage points ahead of last week. Cotton condition was rated 8 percent poor, 27 percent fair, 52 percent good, and 13 percent excellent. Rice headed was reported at 91 percent. Rice condition was rated 11 percent poor, 17 percent fair, 50 percent good, and 22 percent excellent. Sorghum headed progressed to 80 percent. Sorghum turning color progressed to 37 percent. Sorghum condition was rated 5 percent very poor, 20 percent poor, 41 percent fair, 30 percent good, and 4 percent excellent.
