Dalhart livestock auction report

The Cattleman’s Livestock Auction, Dalhart, Texas, reported receipts of 1,169 head selling on Aug. 16, compared to 928 head a week ago and 726 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to a week ago, a limited offering of steer and heifer calves were selling steady,with instances selling $1 to $2 lower. A few loads of feeder steers and heifers were selling steady to $2 lower. Slaughter cows and bulls were selling $1 to $2 higher. Trade and demand was moderate. The bulk of supply was medium and large frame 1 to 2, 350- to 925-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 20%, slaughter bulls less than 1%, replacement cows less than 1%, and feeders 80%. The feeder supply included 77% steers and 23% heifers. Nearly 74% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.
